WISE – Volleyball is back inside the David J. Prior Convocation Center this weekend with matches Friday and Saturday evening. Head Coach Kristen Salyer's team will host Lenoir-Rhyne University Friday at 7 p.m. before facing Mars Hill at home Saturday at 5 p.m.

About UVa-Wise
- The Cavaliers return to Wise following a match against the Tusculum Pioneers on the road Tuesday night. Against Tusculum, UVa-Wise fell 3-0, as the Cavs look to snap a four-match losing streak and gain their first South Atlantic Conference win of the season Friday evening.
- As a team, UVa-Wise is averaging 9.9 kills per set with a .107 attack percentage. Redshirt senior Ciara Kain continues to lead her squad with 41 total kills so far this season. Sophomore Matelyn Gibson has tallied 38 kills while fellow sophomore Kelsey Green has notched 31 kills to date.
- Makayla Ledford has now surpassed 100 assists in her junior campaign, registering a team-high 102 assists to date. Collectively, the Cavs are posting 9.2 assists per set this season.
- Defensively, UVa-Wise has recorded 257 digs, averaging 15.1 per set. The Cavs have totaled 14 blocks led by junior Brooke Abbott who has posted 10 block assists so far this campaign.
- UVa-Wise will go on the road for its first non-conference match since opening SAC play at Lees-McRae Tuesday evening. Coach Salyer's squad returns to Wise for three-straight, starting with a contest against Catawba College Friday night at 7 p.m.
Notes on Lenoir-Rhyne University
- Lenoir-Rhyne visits Wise Friday night with a 6-1 overall mark, 2-1 conference record. The Bears opened the season losing just one set in their first five matches before falling to Queens, 3-1. This will be the first road conference match for UVa-Wise this campaign.
- In his 16th year at the helm of the program, Head Coach Dave Markland's team was selected to finish sixth in the conference preseason coaches' poll. The team finished their 2018 season with a 17-11 overall record, 11-9 in conference play, and advanced to the SAC quarterfinals.
- The Bears return junior Taylor Prall and senior Jackie Denny who were both preseason second team all-conference selections. Prall and Denny were also honorable mention all-conference selections at the end of last season. Prall is currently registering a team-high 109 kills while Denny is posting a team-best .377 attack percentage.
- Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road with a match at Tusculum Saturday afternoon before a three-match home stretch against Mars Hill, Anderson, and Newberry.
Notes on Mars Hill University
- Head Coach Tony Fontanelle's team will come to Wise Saturday evening following a Friday night contest at Tusculum University. The Lions are currently 3-3 overall, including a pair of South Atlantic Conference wins against Catawba, 3-0, and Carson-Newman, 3-1.
- The Lions were selected to finish seventh in the conference preseason coaches' poll. Senior Sally Anne Johnson earned preseason all-conference honors after being named to the preseason first team.
- Sophomore Sarah Goddard leads the Lions to start this season with 57 kills while Johnson has accumulated 49 kills with a .241 attack percentage and a team-high 18 total blocks.
- Mars Hill will go on the road following Saturday's match for a contest at Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday before hosting Newberry and Anderson next weekend.
History
- This is the first volleyball match between UVa-Wise and Lenoir-Rhyne since the Cavaliers became a NCAA Division II member.
- This is the first volleyball match between UVa-Wise and Mars Hill since 2011 when the Cavs fell 3-0 to the Lions.
