Box Score WISE – The Cavaliers dropped their home opener to Lincoln Memorial University Saturday afternoon, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-17).
UVa-Wise put up a fight in the first set, knotting the set several times before the Railsplitters took a 1-0 lead with a close 25-22 victory to open the match.
LMU had a strong performance in the second set as the Railsplitters took an early 8-2 advantage heading into a Cavalier timeout. The Railsplitters kept the momentum throughout the set as UVa-Wise fell 25-17 in set two.
Set three went back-and-forth early with the Cavs down one point before a 4-0 run put the Railsplitters on top, 13-8. Another run for LMU later in the set propelled the Railsplitters to a 20-12 lead. UVa-Wise was unable to rally from the deficit as the Cavs fell in set three, 25-17, to give LMU a 3-0 match sweep.
Head Coach Kristen Salyer's team will return to the court Tuesday evening for a 7 p.m. match at Tusculum University.
