BECKLEY, W.Va. - - UVa-Wise and Fairmont State University will play for their seasons Friday when the two schools meet in an elimination game in the Mountain East Conference Baseball Tournament. Game time is set for 12 p.m. from Linda K Epling Stadium in Beckley, W.Va.
ABOUT UVA-WISE
-          UVa-Wise is playing in its first postseason since 2012. The Cavaliers led top seeded Shepherd for most of its opening round game before back-to-back homers in the eighth inning propelled the Rams to a 5-3 win. 
-          Redshirt senior Brett Yates went 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored while junior Jordon Turner posted a 3-for-4 game with an RBI in the tournament opener. 
-          The Cavs and Fighting Falcons split a pair of meetings in the regular season with Hank Banner's team dropping a 3-2 decision before scoring a 9-4 triumph. 
-          Including Wednesday's opening round tournament game, Yates is 7-for-12 over the last three games. During the stretch, the outfielder has homered, lined three doubles and knocked in five runs.
About Fairmont State
-          Fairmont State dropped a 13 inning decision in its tournament opener 6-5 despite starting MEC Pitcher of the Year Michael Stout. 
-         Like UVa-Wise, Fairmont State had several scoring opportunities in its loss. The Fighting Falcons left nine men on base including having a two-on nobody out situation in the top of the 13th inning.
-          Despite the game going 13 innings, Fairmont State used just two pitchers in the game. Stout tossed 98 pitches before being relieved Houston Morris who pitched 102 pitches out of the bullpen. 
-          Outfielder Zach Musgrove and pitcher Will Brown also earned All-MEC Second-Team acclaim this season. Musgrove is hitting .331 with 12 homers while Brown has a 6-2 record with a 3.49 ERA.
-          Fairmont State scored the fourth most runs in the league during the regular season at 298. The Fighting Falcons have scored double digit runs 11 times in 2019.
