UVa-Wise and Notre Dame College Meet on Day Three of MEC Baseball Tournament

BECKLEY, W.Va. - - UVa-Wise and Notre Dame College will meet for the third time this season with each team playing for its season Saturday on day three of the 2019 Mountain East Conference Baseball Tournament when the schools square off in a 1:15 p.m. first pitch. The winner of the game could play three games Saturday as the winner will play the loser of the Shepherd vs. University of Charleston game at 4:30 before that winner plays again at 7:30 p.m. later in the evening.

ABOUT UVA-WISE

-          Redshirt senior Brett Yates is having an impressive tournament. The outfielder is 5-for-10 with two doubles and three RBI in the first two games of the event.

-          Senior David Thomas had one of the best games of his career in Friday's 19-14 win over Fairmont State. Thomas knocked in six runs as part of his 3-for-5 day while adding two runs scored.

-          UVa-Wise swept Notre Dame in the regular season with a pair of one-run victories. The Cavs won 3-2 and 7-6 in a series played in Wise in March.

-          The 314 strikeouts by UVa-Wise pitchers this spring are the second most in school history. The number is the most since the school became a NCAA Division II institution and is 14 shy of the school record of 328 in 2002.

About Notre Dame

-          Notre Dame has used its pitching to make it to day three of the tournament. The Falcons upended Charleston 7-1 on day one before falling 5-4 in 10 innings to the University of Charleston in the final game Friday.

-         The Falcons have three players who earned All-MEC First-Team or All-MEC Second-Team accolades this season. Notre Dame has used all three players extensively in this tournament. All-MEC First-Team reliever Todd Marshall has tossed five innings out of the bullpen while All-MEC Second-Team starting pitchers Tyler Gault and Ty Shoaff started each of the first two games of the tournament.

-          Joseph Paskall is Notre Dame's leading hitter. The sophomore is hitting .350 with 13 extra-base hits and 29 RBI in 2019.

-          On the mound, Notre Dame is likely to throw either Kenny Pierson or Chris Murphy. Pierson is 4-6 with a 4.82 ERA while Murphy is 2-3 with a 6.58 ERA.

-          Notre Dame was second in the league in triples with 16 during the regular season.
