Cavs Pound Falcons, Win 13th Consecutive MEC Game

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - - Five Cavaliers recorded a hat trick as UVa-Wise blew by Notre Dame College 21-7 in Mountain East Conference women's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon. The win was 13th consecutive for the program over a league foe as the team improved to 5-0 in MEC play in 2019.

UVa-Wise (7-5, 5-0 MEC) blitzed the hosts early by scoring 10 goals in the game's first 17 minutes. By halftime, the visitors from Wise held a 17-4 advantage as Ashley Wells netted a trio of goals in the first 30 minutes.

Notre Dame (6-7, 2-3 MEC) never recovered from the slow start. The Falcons trailed by as many as 15 goals at one point in the second half before eventually falling 21-7.

Wells, Jesse French, Kristin Gobbi, McKayla Grasham and Caroline Earnshaw had three goals each for the Cavaliers who finished with 27 shots on goal.

Wells added three groundballs and three caused turnovers to her stat line while Caroline Earnshaw posted a game-high six draw controls.

Danyelle Hardy scored three of Notre Dame's seven goals and Leslie Diaz posted three draw controls.

UVa-Wise will return to action next Saturday at home against the University of Charleston. First draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Carl Smith Stadium.
