Cavaliers Fall to Wasps in 6-1 Loss

WISE - - In a non-conference home match on Wednesday afternoon, the Cavaliers fell 6-1 to Emory and Henry College at the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex.

Despite a 6-2 win at the No. 1 doubles position by sophomore Coleton Burke and freshman Dominic Hoffman, the Cavs lost the doubles point to Emory and Henry. Freshman Luke Jarnagin and junior John Hamilton fell 6-3 at the No. 2 position, while junior Daniel Laughlin and senior Jakub Blach were defeated at the No. 3 position by a 6-0 score.

In singles play, Jarnagin earned the Cavs first win since September with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 position. The victory was also Jarnigan's first career win in singles play.

That would be the only victory of the day for UVa-Wise, as Burke was defeated 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 1 position, while Blach lost 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 6 position. Hoffman, Hamilton and Laughlin each fell 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 positions respectively.

The Cavaliers will start a four-game road trip on Saturday when they play conference-rival University of Charleston at 1 p.m. Their next home match will be a non-conference affair on April 17 when they host King University at 4 p.m.
