BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - - The beat goes on for the women's lacrosse team at UVa-Wise. Meghan Dennehy's squad completed a season-series sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan with a 20-2 throttling of the Bobcats Thursday afternoon. The win was the 14th consecutive for the Cavaliers over Mountain East Conference foes, a league record.
UVa-Wise (9-5, 7-0 MEC) scored the game's first 17 goals and held a 15-0 advantage at intermission.
West Virginia Wesleyan (5-10, 0-8 MEC) never recovered from the slow start. The Bobcats had just 11 shots during the game while the Cavaliers had 30 shots.
Seniors Kristin Gobbi and McKayla Grasham along with freshman Caroline Earnshaw all tallied three goals in the win. Senior Sydney Steinberg and junior Jesse French each handed out four assists as UVa-Wise assisted on 14-of-20 goals.
French also scored once to record the 100th goal of her career while Grasham became the third player in program history to eclipse 150 career points with her performance.
The Cavs can clinch at least a share of the league title Saturday when the team visits Shepherd University. First draw is set for 12 p.m.
