BRISTOL, Tenn. - - Men's tennis fell to Fairmont State, 5-0, Saturday afternoon at the Bristol Racquet and Fitness Club.
The Cavaliers (0-8, 0-1 MEC) were swept at doubles with sophomore Coleton Burke and freshman Dominic Hoffman blanked at the No. 1 spot, 6-0, and freshman Luke Jarnagin and junior John Hamilton fell 6-2 at the number two position. Junior Daniel Laughlin and senior Jakub Blach were defeated at the No. 3 spot 6-1 to Fairmont's (1-2, 1-0 MEC) Drew Hawthorne and Ryan Leo.
UVa-Wise fell in all four singles matches played with Burke and Hamilton falling 6-0, 6-0 to their opponents at the number one and number four positions, respectively. Hoffman was defeated by the Fighting Falcons' Guilherme Pachane 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot while Jarnagin won three games in the first set but was swept in the second for a 6-3, 6-0 loss at number three.
Roger Whited's team returns to action Saturday, March 16 for a non-conference match against Cedarville University. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex.
