Nokomis Williams' Career Night not Enough, Cavs Fall to Eagles

WISE - - Charleston outscored host UVa-Wise 20-11 in the fourth quarter of Wednesday's Mountain East Conference women's basketball game to upend the Cavaliers 74-59 at the Prior Center. The win completed a season-series sweep for the Golden Eagles and keeps Charleston's hopes of an at large berth in the NCAA Tournament alive.

Charleston (22-5, 17-4 MEC) was able to secure the win despite a career night from UVa-Wise (13-14, 11-10 MEC) sophomore forward Nokomis Williams. Williams scored eight points, grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds and blocked a career-best five shots while adding a pair of assists to her stat line.

While Williams was playing well on the interior for the Cavaliers, it was the guard play of the visitors that propelled them to victory.

Reigning national player of the week Raziyah Farrington scored a game-high 20 points while fellow guard Brooklyn Parnell netted 10. More importantly, the Golden Eagles turned it over just nine times while dishing out 18 assists in the contest.

A key factor in the game was the charity stripe, Charleston made 13-of-18 attempts while UVa-Wise went only three times, making two of the shots.

Ada Stanley finished 7-of-8 from the floor to tally 15 points while Hanna Oliver scored 10 in a losing effort.

As a team, the Cavs blocked a season-high eight shots but turned the ball over 22 times which led to 27 points for the Golden Eagles.

UVa-Wise will wrap up the regular season on Saturday when Concord visits the Prior Center in a 2 p.m. tip. Senior Day activities will occur prior to tip-off as the program honors Ashley Cullen, Janice Ladson, "Quick" Gomez, Alle Moore and Dakotah Turner for their contributions to the program.
