KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - - Despite a win at the No. 1 doubles position, the Cavaliers were swept 7-0 by the Carson-Newman Eagles on Sunday.
Freshmen Liza Akimenko and Katya Akimenko provided the only win of the day for the Cavaliers (0-6), defeating Ana Carla Resende and Ali Harris 6-2 at the No. 1 doubles position. Junior Aya Melhem and freshman Lillian Morris fell 6-1 in the No. 3 position, while freshman Grace Hall and senior Montana Hill dropped the No. 2 spot 6-0.
Liza Akimenko was the only Cavalier to play three sets in singles play, as she fell 7-6, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. Katya Akimenko lost at the No. 2 position 6-4, 7-6, while freshman Olivia Dishner dropped the No. 6 position 6-2, 6-2. Melhem was the only other Cavalier to win a game in singles play, as she fell 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 position.
The Cavaliers will play their first home match of 2019 on Feb. 22 when they host conference rival Notre Dame College at 3 p.m.
