Webb Notches Double-Double in Season Opening Loss

GAFFNEY, S.C. - - Host Limestone outscored UVa-Wise 26-13 in the third quarter to erase a three-point halftime deficit en route to a 94-83 non-conference women's basketball victory at the Timken Center Friday. The game was played as part of the season opening SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge and served as the season opener for both schools.

UVa-Wise (0-1) shot a blistering 15-for-24 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes as junior Hanna Oliver was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field in the first half as the Cavaliers built a 41-38 lead at intermission.

Limestone (1-0) used its defense to take control of the contest in the third quarter. The Saints held the Cavs to 4-of-11 shooting and just 1-of-5 from beyond the 3-point arc. Meanwhile, Limestone made 8-of-18 attempts in the quarter and 7-of-10 foul shots. Schekinah Bimpa scored six of her 12 points in the quarter while Josie Long netted eight of her 12 points in the quarter.

UVa-Wise senior Cynita Webb did her best to keep Jamie Cluesman's squad in the contest. The forward scored 15 of her team-high 20 points in the second half but the Cavs would be unable to get any closer than seven points over the final 10 minutes of play.

Webb added a game-high 13 rebounds to record the 27th double-double of her career. Freshman Caitlyn Ross scored 15 points and dished out five assists while Mackenzie King nailed four 3-pointers en route to 14 points, Kalee Johnson chipped in 13 points in the loss.

Cluesman's crew did a good job on the boards out rebounding the Saints 39-29 but, UVa-Wise turned the ball over 24 times which led to 22 points for Limestone.

The Saints' Reagan McCray led all players with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting. As a team, Limestone shot 47.5 percent from the field, the number was boosted by a 17-for-33 showing in the second half.
