Volleyball Falls on Senior Day to Anderson

WISE – The Cavaliers dropped a three-set match to the Trojans of Anderson University Saturday afternoon, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-19). It was the last regular season match of the season for the Cavs as the team recognized seniors Ciara Kain, Briana Kerr, and Morgan Milligan.

A fast start for Anderson (21-6, 17-5 SAC) put the Trojans up 15-7 midway through the first set. UVa-Wise (1-26, 0-22 SAC) used a late 5-2 run to get cut the deficit to 23-19 on a kill by sophomore Kelsey Green, but the Cavs would not be able to complete the comeback, dropping the first frame, 25-19.

The two teams kept it close to start the second set, but three straight points for Anderson would force a timeout for UVa-Wise as the Trojans led, 14-9. The Cavs continued to trail, down four points, but a another run for Anderson extended the Trojans advantage to 21-13. UVa-Wise continued to crawl back but eventually dropped the second set, 25-18.

Anderson used a 9-1 run to open the final frame as the Trojans went on to gain a double-digit advantage later in the third set. Down 22-9, UVa-Wise won seven consecutive points to cut the Trojans lead to just six points, 22-16. The Cavs continued to chip away at Anderson's lead, but were unable to get the win as the Trojans took the third frame, 25-19, for a 3-0 sweep of the Cavs.

Green and Kain led the offense with nine kills apiece while Kain recorded a team-best .276 attack percentage. Green and Kain also posted 10 digs each while senior Briana Kerr notched a team-high 14 digs. Fellow senior Morgan Milligan tallied 21 assists with a pair of service aces and six digs in the loss.

Head coach Kristen Salyer's team will return to action next fall for the 2020 volleyball season.
