Volleyball Travels to Catawba, Queens (N.C.) This Weekend

WISE – Head coach Kristen Salyer's squad will travel to North Carolina this weekend to take on Catawba College Friday night at 7 p.m. before facing the Royals of Queens (N.C.) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.

About UVa-Wise

- Coach Salyer's team visits Salisbury with a 1-14 overall mark while still winless in the conference. UVa-Wise dropped a pair of matches last weekend at home, falling to then-No. 23 Wingate University 3-0 before losing 3-1 to Coker University Saturday afternoon.

- Redshirt senior Ciara Kain's 144 kills top the category for the Cavaliers, recently recording a double-double in the 3-1 loss to Coker with 14 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore Kelsey Green also posted a double-double in the loss to the Cobras registering 13 kills and 10 digs.

- Three Cavaliers have surpassed 100 assists this season led by junior Makayla Ledford who has recorded 213 to date. Senior Morgan Milligan follows with 135 assists while freshman Zoe Avery has accumulated 125 assists so far this year.

- Junior Brooke Abbot's .239 attack percentage (17th in the league) leads the Cavs as she has tallied 92 kills this season for the third-most on the team while her 32 blocks, five solo and 27 assisted, lead the team.

- Milligan leads UVa-Wise in digs with 224 (10th in the league) followed by fellow senior Briana Kerr (164) and Kain (163).

- UVa-Wise will host Tusculum Tuesday night at 7 p.m. before returning to the road for a pair of matches next weekend at Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill University.

Notes on Catawba College

- Catawba hosts UVa-Wise Friday night as the team enters into the weekend with a 4-10 overall mark, 3-8 in South Atlantic Conference play. Catawba is 3-3 so far this October, picking up wins against UNC Pembroke, Anderson (S.C.), and Newberry.

- Head coach Patrick Nicholas' squad is led in kills this season by sophomore Kylie Morgan who has posted 163 (10th in the league) and junior Jade Brooks who has 102 kills so far this year.

- Junior Malia Carr's 201 digs rank her 10th in the SAC while she leads her team in the category.

- Senior Morgan Hester has accumulated a team-high 503 assists to date (fourth in the SAC), averaging 9.86 assists per set.

- Catawba will play Tusculum at home Saturday afternoon before hitting the road for three straight matches.

Notes on Queens (N.C.)

- Head coach Hannah Long's team will take on the Pioneers of Tusculum University Friday night prior to hosting the Cavs Saturday afternoon. The Royals currently hold a 12-4 overall record, 9-2 in conference play. Coach Long's team is on a six-game win streak, with their last loss on the road in a 3-0 sweep at Tusculum.

- Three Royals have cracked 100 kills on the season led by junior Casey Tarvin who has posted 174 kills (fourth in the SAC) followed by junior Logan Witt who has 160 (12th in the SAC) and junior Chanel Turner who has accumulated 130 kills this season.

- Junior JayCee Jones has a team-high 278 digs (sixth in the SAC) to date while Tarvin is behind her with 206 this year. Junior Logan Witt (59) and sophomore Lindsay Elmore (52) sit atop the blocking category for Queens (N.C.).

- Senior setter Mallory Swarts' team-leading 578 assists ranks her third in the league while her 9.92 assists per set place her second in the conference.

- Queens (N.C.) will return home for a pair of matches against Wingate University and Coker University next Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

- Catawba defeated the Cavs 3-0 this past September in the first ever match between the two teams.
