Webb Scores Career-High 25 in Loss at LMU

HARROGATE, Tenn. –  Lincoln Memorial University jumped out to a 44-23 halftime lead and led wire-to-wire in an 86-66 women's basketball win over visiting UVa-Wise at Tex Turner Arena Monday.  The meeting was the final for the two schools as non-conference foes, next year UVa-Wise will be joining the South Atlantic Conference.

UVa-Wise (5-7) junior Cynita Webb scored a career-high 25 points while making a career-high 10 field goals on 19 attempts. It was the fourth consecutive game the forward reached double figures and marked the 25th time she has accomplished the feat in her career.

LMU (7-6) used a 26-to-18 rebounding advantage in the first half and limited the guests to 7-of-33 shooting to jump out to the 21-point lead. Sydney Newsome and Emily Griffith each tallied 12 first half points for the Railsplitters who shot 53.3 percent in the opening 20 minutes.

UVa-Wise missed its final seven field goal attempts of the first quarter before making just 4-of-18 attempts in the second quarter which led to the early deficit.

The Cavs' received a spark when senior Adalmaryz Rivera-Gomez came off the bench and canned a pair of 3-pointers to get the Cavaliers within eight at 23-15 with 7:23 to play before intermission only to see the 'Splitters finish the half on a 21-8 scoring spurt.

Behind 15 third quarter points from Webb, UVa-Wise turned a 21-point halftime deficit to 10 at 61-51 going into the final quarter.

Cold shooting returned for the Cavs as the team made just 3-of-12 field goal attempts to begin the fourth quarter. The scoring lull allowed the 'Splitters to build the lead to 78-59 with under 3:30 to play, essentially eliminating any hope of a comeback.

Judy Kaylnn Cummings tied a career-high with three made 3-pointers to register nine points in the loss.

LMU enjoyed a 59-to-31 advantage on the boards, including 21 rebounds on the offensive end. Forward Maggie Jachimczuk came off the bench to score 17 points and grab 14 a game-high 14 rebounds in the victory.

Emily Griffith finished with a team-high 22 points while sister Rachel netted 10 points for the 'Splitters.

For the game, LMU limited UVa-Wise to 32.9 percent shooting and a 7-of-29 effort from the 3-point line. The 'Splitters finished with a 42.2 percent shooting percentage and went to the free throw line 37 times.

Next up, UVa-Wise returns to league play as Fairmont State visits the Prior Center for a 5:30 p.m. tip Thursday.
