BRISTOL, Tenn. - - UVa-Wise dropped its match against King University on the road Tuesday evening, 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-17).
The Cavs (0-6) held the lead early in the first set, going up 7-4 over the Tornado (5-4) to start the match. King then went on a 6-1 run to take a 10-8 advantage. The Tornado continued to extend their lead with a six point advantage late in the set as King went on to win the first set, 25-15.
UVa-Wise attempted to battle back in the second set as they went into their first timeout of the set only down to the Tornado by three points, 17-14. King would go on an 8-2 run to take the second set, 25-16.
The Cavs fell behind early to start the third as the Tornado went ahead 15-8. King would go up by as much as nine points during the set as the Cavs suffered a 25-17 loss in the third and final set of the match.
Freshman Matelyn Gibson led the Cavs with five kills while sophomore setter Makayla Ledford registered 12 assists.
UVa-Wise will continue their campaign this weekend at the Concord Tournament hosted by Concord University.
