WISE - - Cavalier softball held Senior Day Saturday afteroon as the team was swept by the visiting Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan. UVa-Wise fell to the Bobcats, 5-3, in game one and were shutout by West Virginia Wesleyan, 2-0, in game two.

West Virginia Wesleyan (35-10, 26-4) got on the board early with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Lauryn King doubled before Krista Waggoner scored King.

UVa-Wise (25-21, 14-16 MEC) would find itself in position to score in the bottom of the first and third but would not be able to push a run across.

The Bobcats would get two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Sara Scoone would single to center field but would be out on the next play while King reached on a fielder's choice. Aylin Gutierrez then homered to left field, plating King.

Wesleyan tacked on another run in the top of the sixth when Madison Casto singled before stealing second base. Scoone then singled and tried to reach second but would be out on the play as Casto scored for the Bobcats.

Kaylee Jones would single on the next at-bat followed by a double by Samantha Ely to put the Cavs in scoring position. A single by Taylor Creasey would drive home both Jones and Ely to cut the deficit to 4-3 for UVa-Wise.

Wesleyan managed to plate one more in the top of the seventh. King would walk and advance to second on a sacrifice bunt. A fielding error on the next play would put Gutierrez on first and give King an unearned run.

UVa-Wise would get one runner on base in the bottom of the inning, but a trio of groundouts would give the Bobcats a 5-3 game one victory.

Jones and Creasey were both 2-for-3 at the plate while Creasey recorded two RBI. Miles went 1-for-3 with a run and RBI.
