WISE - - UVa-Wise scored nine consecutive first half goals to break open a 2-2 game en route to a 17-6 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over Mars Hill University Tuesday afternoon.
The win was the third consecutive for the Cavaliers (9-5) who improved to 5-1 against South Atlantic Conference programs this season. UVa-Wise will be joining the league for the 2019-20 season.
UVa-Wise dominated every statistical category in the win; Meghan Dennehy's club posted 24 shots on goal, collected 29 groundballs and finished 14-for-16 in clear attempts.
Senior Rachel Cole led all players with five goals while sophomore Jesse French netted three goals and dished out two assists, junior Kristin Gobbi also recorded a hat trick as she scored three times in the win.
Mars Hill (2-12) was led by Olivia Hokanson who scored three of her team's six goals.
UVa-Wise will return to league play Sunday against the University of Charleston when the team honors its first senior year class as part of Senior Day 2018 in a pregame ceremony.
