WISE, Va. - - UVa-Wise put forth a dominating effort Sunday afternoon in a 15-4 Mountain East Conference women's lacrosse victory over Notre Dame College at Smith Stadium. The Falcons mustered just eight shots on goal in the loss, including one in the first half, as the Cavaliers used a stifling defense to post its second consecutive league win to begin the year.
UVa-Wise (8-4, 2-0 MEC) scored the game's first seven goals before surging to an 8-1 halftime lead.
McKayla Grasham and Jesse French each scored a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes while Sydney Steinberg tallied three points off of two assists in the opening moments of the contest.
Notre Dame (3-8, 0-2 MEC) struggled throughout the game. The visitors finished the game 11-for-31 in clear attempts while committing 31 turnovers.
Meghan Dennehy's club posted 29 shots on goal while collecting 15 draw controls in the win.
French led all players with four goals while Grasham and Hannah Marshall had three each.
Steinberg picked up a game-high nine groundballs while Cole led all players with six draw controls.
Next up, Mars Hill will be in town Tuesday for a makeup contest. First draw is set for 4 p.m. from Smith Stadium.
