CHARLOTTE, N.C. - - No. 17 Queens University of Charlotte scored seven unanswered second half goals to claim a 14-7 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over UVa-Wise at Dickson Field Sunday.
The Royals' (4-7) saw three players record hat tricks in the win as Katie Wardle, Allison Conn and Hanna Scott each netted three goals.
UVa-Wise (5-3) trailed by just three, 7-4, at intermission but would be unable to generate any second half offense. Queens' Chase Brokaw saved all four shots on goal she faced in the second half to lead a Royals' defense that forced 23 turnovers.
The Cavaliers struck first on an unassisted goal from McKayla Grasham with 26:16 to play in the opening half.
Queens countered with three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead with just over 20 minutes to play in the opening period before Sydney Steinberg scored and then assisted on an Annie Hanson goal to tie the game at the 14:01 mark.
Grasham's second goal of the game gave her club a 4-3 lead but it would be the last goal of the day for Meghan Dennehy's squad.
The Royals would score the final four goals of the half before outscoring the Cavs 7-0 in the second half to claim the non-league win.
Erin Smith had three groundballs while Rachel Cole added three draw controls in the loss.
Next up, UVa-Wise will play host to Lincoln Memorial University Wednesday night. First draw from Smith Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
