WISE - - Kori West scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as King University withstood ten lead changes and five ties to claim a 62-54 victory over UVa-Wise at the Prior Center Saturday evening.
King (5-5) broke open a 54-53 game with an 8-1 scoring spurt to close out the game to complete the season series sweep.
Ali Golden scored five of the eight points in the spurt for the Tornado as UVa-Wise (5-6) missed its final 10 field goal attempts.
The Cavaliers were led by Janice Ladson and Ada Stanley who had 12 points each in the loss while Cynita Webb finished a rebound shy of a double-double as she netted 10 points.
The Tornado enjoyed a healthy advantage from the free throw line by going to the stripe 22 times compared to 10 attempts for the hosts.
West finished 10-of-16 from the field while adding a trio of blocked shots for King; her 13 rebounds helped the guests to a 49-43 margin on the boards.
UVa-Wise made 3-of-8 attempts from the 3-point line in the first half but finished the game just 6-of-23 from beyond the arc.
Jamie Cluesman's team did receive a boost from the bench as the reserves tallied 25 points. In addition to Stanley's 12 point output, Mackenzie King made a pair of 3-pointers en route to eight points.
Next up, UVa-Wise will play future SAC foe Lincoln Memorial University on the road Jan. 7 at 6 p.m.
