INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A week after appearing in the first NCAA Division II regional rankings of the season for the first time in program history, the UVa-Wise softball team has moved up a spot to No. 7 in the Atlantic Region. Five different Mountain East Conference schools remained ranked in the Atlantic Region with the NCAA's second regional rankings release Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Cavaliers (29-15, 20-8 MEC), who have now won a season-high eight consecutive games, find themselves seventh in the region with a 27-15 record against in-region teams. Also ranked in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region from the MEC is No. 2 West Virginia Wesleyan (38-6), No. 4 the University of Charleston (32-14), No. 5 Concord University (28-24) and No. 6 Shepherd University (30-17).
 
West Chester University out of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference remains atop the Atlantic Region with a 35-9 overall record against Division II opponents and a 34-7 mark against in-region teams.
 
Earlier today at Cavalier Field UVa-Wise swept Concord, who is fifth in the regional rankings, in a pair of MEC games. The Cavs now have a total of six wins against teams ranked in the Atlantic Region. UVa-Wise split home doubleheaders with both Shepherd and nationally-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan, while going 2-2 against Charleston who is receiving votes in the national poll. In non-conference play the Cavs earned a 3-1 road win at Lenoir-Rhyne University, who is ranked No. 5 in the Southeast Region and 13th in the nation.
 
UVa-Wise sits above the PSAC's Bloomsburg University (23-14) and Shippensburg University (25-18) in the Atlantic Region rankings.
 
The Cavs wrap up the regular season this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders at No. 8 West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday and at Glenville State College Sunday. Game one of both doubleheaders is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two following.
 
UVa-Wise currently sits in third place in the MEC South Division standings, just one game behind Charleston and three games ahead of Concord.
