CLEVELAND, Tenn. - - Kristin Gobbi scored six goals and Sydney Steinberg handed out four assists as UVa-Wise upended Lee University 18-5 in non-conference lacrosse action Friday afternoon. With the win, Meghan Dennehy's squad improves to 6-2 on the season while the Flames drop to 0-8.
Lee got on the board first when Hannah Rotello scored unassisted at the 26:13 mark of the opening half.
From there, the Cavaliers would go on a 6-0 scoring spurt to take command of the contest. Gobbi would score a pair of goals in the spurt while Steinberg, Hannah Marshall, Ashley Wells and Annie Hanson also scored.
Brianne Schapira would stop the UVa-Wise run with an unassisted goal at the 11:35 mark only to see the guests rattle off five of the half's final seven goals to take an 11-4 lead to intermission.
The second half belong to the Cavs as they outscored the flames 7-1 in the final 30 minutes to post the 18-5 road win.
Marshall finished the game with four goals while Wells and Steinberg added two goals each. Steinberg finished the game with six points to join Gobbi for game-high point leader honors.
Lee managed just 11 shots and committed 24 turnovers in the loss. Dennehy's team also won the groundball battle 31-21. Marshall led all players with eight groundballs.
The Cavs will be back in action Sunday at Young Harris, first draw is set for 12 p.m.
