Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Darrell-Dingus Ely

No. 16 Indiana - Pennsylvania Powers Past UVa-Wise

WISE - - No. 16 Indiana University – Pennsylvania started the game with a 6-0 scoring spurt and never looked back in an 18-2 women's lacrosse victory over UVa-Wise at Carl Smith Stadium Saturday. The win snapped an early season two-game losing streak for the Crimson Hawks while the Cavaliers dropped to 5-2.

IUP (1-2) got on the board at the 27:39 mark of the first half when Kelly Shields scored an unassisted goal. It was the start of an 11-goal half for the visitors as Ally Burrows would score two of the game's next five goals to give the Crimson Hawks a 6-0 lead with 16:04 to play in the first half.

UVa-Wise (5-2) would get on the board with just over 11 minutes to play in the half when Ashley Wells scored unassisted. It would be the only positive result of the half for the Cavs as IUP finished the half with five consecutive goals to take an 11-1 lead to intermission.

With a running clock in effect, IUP would take a 17-1 lead with 9:20 remaining in the contest as the visitors scoring run reached 11 straight goals before Wells' second goal of the day made the score 17-2 with 4:20 to play.

Kendall Loviscky would score with one minute showing on the clock for the Crimson Hawks to provide the winning margin of 18-2.

Burrows finished the game with six goals and seven points while teammate Hannah Bertolo led all players with six groundballs.

Jessica Apgar collected three groundballs and Hannah Marshall tallied an assist in the loss.

UVa-Wise will return to action on Friday at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.
