Kentucky Wesleyan struck for three runs in the top of the first as Josh Galvan and Adam Brown each had an RBI before the Panthers scored a third run on an error.
UVa-Wise never recovered as Verst struck out six without allowing a walk in the complete game effort.
The Cavaliers posted just two hits in defeat as Cal Bailey and Tyler Blaum had a hit each.
Kentucky Welseyan lined 12 hits, Nathan Stemle, Brown, Andrew Kirkland and Seth Campbell had two hits each in the run-rule victory.
The Cavaliers will complete their spring break trip tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. against Minnesota State – Mankato.
