ORLANDO, Fla. - - Kyle Montrell pitched five innings of one-hit, one-run baseball while Mitch Anderson homered and scored three runs to lead Tiffin University to a 13-2 victory over UVa-Wise on day one of the Russ Mat Spring Break Invitational.
Anderson's two-run homer came in the bottom of the third inning to give Tiffin (2-3) a 2-0 lead. The dragons would put the game out of reach over the next two frames by scoring a combined nine times to take an 11-0 lead.
UVa-Wise (4-7) pitching allowed 13 hits and eight walks while hitting a batter in the seven-inning affair.
At the plate, sophomore David Thomas was the only standout as he lined two hits, including a two-RBI single to plate the Cavaliers only runs of the game.
Alec Murray led Tiffin by going 2-4 with four RBI and a run scored while Kurt Barbeau added a two-run homer as part of a three-RBI day for the left fielder.
Hank Banner's team will be back in action tomorrow against Point Park (Pa.) for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
