WISE - - Kristin Gobbi scored four goals, dished out two assists and picked up five groundballs to lead UVa-Wise to its fourth consecutive win, a 16-1 triumph over Urbana University at Smith Stadium Friday.
UVa-Wise (8-2, 2-0 MEC) scored 12 unanswered first half goals to take a commanding lead to intermission in the Mountain East Conference contest.
The first half featured three of Gobbi's four goals while Hannah Marshall added two goals in the opening 30 minutes.
Urbana (0-10, 0-3 MEC) scored its only goal of the game when Chanelle Bondurant scored unassisted with 24:30 to play.
Meghan Dennehy's team scored the final four goals of to cruise to the 16-1 win.
The Cavaliers dominated every facet of the game. UVa-Wise finished the game with 33 shots to just seven for Urbana. Eleven of 18 draw controls went in favor of the hosts while Urbana committed 21 turnovers compared to 12 for UVa-Wise.
Annie Hanson, Catherine Dina and Marshall finished with two goals each in the victory. Dina added four groundballs while Rachel Cole led all players with six draw controls.
In goal, Melanie Reilly posted five saves and produced three groundballs. The game marked the fifth time this season the Cavs have limited an opponent to five or fewer goals.
Bondurant added four groundballs and three draw controls to lead the Blue Knights.
UVa-Wise will look to remain perfect in league play Sunday when Notre Dame College visits in an 11 a.m. start time.
