CHARLESTON, W.Va. - - Cody Jewell tossed 7 1/3 innings of three-run ball and Dylan Luttrell earned his first collegiate save as UVa-Wise claimed a 10-3 victory in game two to earn a doubleheader split with the University of Charleston Sunday. The host Golden Eagles rallied from 6-2 deficit in the opener to score a 7-6 triumph as the two schools split the four-game Mountain East Conference series.
GAME ONE
Charleston (13-29, 6-18 MEC) took an early 1-0 lead as Joe Somuk singled in Brice Arrington in the home half of the first.  The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 when Grant Bates reached on an error allowing Will Lucas to scamper home.
UVa-Wise (17-25, 7-17 MEC) got within a run in the top of the fourth when Vinny Kuchenbuch's RBI groundout scored Steve Klaiber.
In the fifth, the Cavaliers plated two as Klaiber and Ben Coffman knocked in a run each to make a 3-2 game. 
Hank Banner's squad extended their lead to four with three runs in the six. Ty Lighton knocked in Matt Wright with a sacrifice fly before Tye Marshall plated two on a RBI single up the middle.
Trailing 6-2, Charleston scored five runs in the home sixth to regain the lead. Austin Hathaway delivered the big blow in the frame when he cleared the bases with a three-RBI double.
The Cavs would get a baserunner in the visiting seventh only to see Luke Yingling field a line drive and turn it into a double play to pick up the win. 
Yingling earned the victory by tossing 1 2/3 innings of scoreless ball. Alex Dobry was dealt the loss after surrendering three runs in 2/3 innings.
Marshall was the only Cav with multiple hits as the shortstop went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs. 
Arrington, Somuk and Lucas had two hits each for the Golden Eagles.
GAME TWO
UVa-Wise broke a scoreless game with a two-spot in the top of the third. Klaiber lined a run-scoring hit before Kuchenbuch was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the game's second run.
The Cavs tacked on two more runs in the fifth when Ben Coffman scored Marcus Elmore with an RBI groundout before David Thomas knocked in Klaiber with a run-scoring hit.
UVa-Wise would score the game's next three runs to take a 7-0 lead as Ryan Dickt scored on an error, before Coffman and Lighton each knocked in a run. 
Charleston would score three times in the eighth but Luttrell came in to escape the jam only to see Marshall knock in three in the home half to provide the 10-3 winning margin.
Klaiber and Marshall had three hits each while Elmore scored a trio of runs in the win.
Luttrell struck out one and allowed a hit in his 1 2/3 innings as he picked up his first collegiate save.
UVa-Wise returns to action next weekend at West Virginia Wesleyan.
