Late Rally Comes up Short in Loss at King

BRISTOL, Tenn. - - Ashley Albertson and Emily Kiser each scored 15 points as King University held off a late UVa-Wise rally to claim a 60-56 victory at the Student Center Complex Wednesday.

After falling behind by seven with 1:33 to play, UVa-Wise (6-3) began its comeback bid. Senior Taylor Sandidge scored inside to make it 55-50 with 1:23 to play.

King (6-2) would split a pair of free throws on its next possession before Allison Ball would drain a 3-pointer to make it a 56-53 game with 40 seconds remaining.

Following two Tornado free throws, Sandidge would cut the lead to two when she completed an and-1 play.

With the lead cut to 58-56, UVa-Wise would force a turnover getting the ball back with 23 seconds to play and a chance to tie or take the lead.

The Cavaliers would call a timeout to setup a would-be game-winning attempt. Freshman Kayla Mullins would take a 3-pointer but the attempt would come up no good, King boarded the miss and sank two free throws to claim the 60-56 triumph.

Sandidge scored a game-high 17 points in the loss. The guard was the only UVa-Wise player to finish in double figure scoring as UVa-Wise shot just 37.3 percent from the field in the contest.

King's Jalan Harper led all players with 13 rebounds. The Tornado forced 22 turnovers in the game and turned the miscues into 23 points on the other end of the floor.

UVa-Wise will be off until Dec. 17 when the team travels to Puerto Rico for a pair of contests.
