Box Score SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - - Seniors Kayla Carey and Makenzie Cluesman each scored their 1,000th career point as UVa-Wise rolled to a 71-32 victory over the University of Puerto Rico – Rio Piedras at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum Saturday.
UVa-Wise (7-3) got on the board first when Carey scored inside to eclipse the 1,000 point plateau. With the made bucket, the Knoxville, Tenn. native became the 19th player in program history to score at least 1,000 points in her career.
Cluesman entered the 1,000 point club and became the 20th woman at the school to enter the club when she canned a 3-pointer with just over eight minutes to play in the contest. The Jonesville, Va. product finished the game with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Her 16 rebounds were a game-high.
The Cavaliers blew the game open by outscoring the Gallitos 17-7 in the second quarter to take a 28-16 lead to intermission.
Kristian Kunzman's team put any doubt of victory to rest in the third period by outscoring the hosts 23-5.
Sophomore Alle Moore came off the bench to lead all players with 15 points in the win. As a team, UVa-Wise won the battle of the boards 61-20 and limited UPR-Rio Piedras to 24.1 percent shooting for the game.
Gabriela Maldonad led the Gallitos with 10 points on 4-13 shooting.
UVa-Wise will return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against the University of Puerto Rico – Bayamon.
