GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State outscored UVa-Wise 26-9 in the second quarter and never looked back en route to a 103-78 Mountain East Conference women's basketball victory at the Waco Center Saturday.
Glenville State (5-1, 3-1 MEC) made nine of its 15 3-pointers in the second half as the Pioneers outscored the Cavaliers by 27 points from beyond the arc. Brittany Jackson was the Pioneers' most prolific outside shooter as she canned five triples en route to 17 points.
UVa-Wise (6-2, 3-1 MEC) turned the ball over 26 times in its first loss since the team's season opener. Freshman Kayla Mullins was a bright spot for the Cavaliers as the former Ridgeview High School standout scored 19 points on eight of 12 shooting.
Kayla Carey and Taylor Sandidge also finished in double figure scoring for the Cavs. Carey scored 15 points while adding seven rebounds while Sandidge chipped n in 13 points and five boards in the loss.
Glenville State's Paris McLeod led all players with 18 points while teammate Courtney Davis turned in a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. In total, five Pioneers finished in double figures.
Kim Stephens' team finished with 24 offensive rebounds while attempting 89 field goals in the win.
The game was the final conference game for each school until January. Next up for UVa-Wise is a non-conference tilt at King University on Wednesday.
