UVa-Wise Set to Entertain West Virginia Wesleyan for Senior Day 2016

WISE, Va. – Having already claimed its first winning season since 2008, UVa-Wise will look to win at least seven games for the sixth time in program history when first-year Head Coach Dane Damron's team welcomes West Virginia Wesleyan to Smith Stadium Saturday.
 
UVa-Wise (6-3, 5-3 MEC) is coming off its fourth road win of the season, a 39-36 triumph at Urbana University. In the win, redshirt freshman quarterback Brycen Lee passed for 387 yards and four touchdowns, both season highs. The Mayo, Florida. Native was also forced into punting duty and he did not disappoint. Lee punted four times for an average of 40.5 yards per punt.
Two of the freshman's kicks landed inside the 20 while he added a 51-yard boot.
 
Seven different Cavaliers caught at least three passes in the win as Lee completed 36 of 43 pass attempts. Sophomore Corey Hilberath led the way with 11 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown. Junior Jacob Cousins hauled in two TD passes while adding 79 yards on five catches.
 
The UVa-Wise defense was led by seniors Zachary Blair and Chris Flood. The duo tied for team-high tackle honors with eight each while Blair moved within 1.5 tackles for loss of the all-time NCAA Division II record with three in the win. The Front Royal, Va. product now has 75.5 TFLs in his career.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan (3-6, 3-5 MEC) is coming off its biggest win of 2016, a 27-25 win at the University of Charleston. The Bobcats are led by senior running back Michael Anderson who leads the MEC in rushing yards with 1,189 yards on 230 attempts. The Elkridge, Md. native also ranks second in the league in rushing TDs with nine.
 
In its win over Charleston, Wesleyan used a 40-yard field goal from Tyler Fischer and a late defensive stand to earn the win. The Bobcats took an early 4-2 lead after securing two safeties, overall Wesleyan's defense limited Charleston to 141 passing yards on just eight completions.
 
The Bobcats have won each of the first three meetings against the Cavaliers, including a 47-21 win in Buckhannon last season. In that game, Wesleyan receiver Zach Schademan caught five passes for 65 yards and two TDs while Anderson added 146 yards on the ground and a score. Schademan has caught 25 passes for 343 yards and two TDs.
 
Wesleyan has played better on the road this season, first-year Head Coach Del Smith's team is 2-3 away from Cebe Ross Field.
 
UVa-Wise wraps up its 2016 season Thursday when the team visits Charleston in a 7 p.m. kickoff, West Virginia Wesleyan ends its season at home against Notre Dame College next Saturday.
