Morgan Milligan (Bridgewater, Va.) broke the volleyball program record for assists in a match. Willing UVa-Wise to the 3-2 (24-26, 25-23, 25-21, 27-29, 15-12) win, Milligan totaled a remarkable 76 assists. Her record night is the most assists by a single player in any match this season in all of NCAA, regardless of division.
Lee made a career-high 37 digs and Anderson tallied a career-high 20 kills as UVa-Wise came back in the fifth set to defeat the visiting Mountain Lions (15-13, 6-6 MEC). The Cavs got double-digit kills from five different players en route to connecting on 82 kills as a team with an attack percentage of .213. UVa-Wise's defense was stout, getting to 91 total digs and holding Concord to 59 kills in the match. The Mountain Lions did out block the Cavs by a margin of six and a half total team blocks but it wasn't enough as UVa-Wise rallied from a three-point deficit in the final set after holding four match points in the fourth set.
A tightly contested opening set paved the way for the rest of the match. With the score knotted up at 23-all in the first set, Concord claimed three of the next four points to take the set 26-24. Trailing 19-17 in the second set, UVa-Wise earned six of the next seven points to go up 23-20. Concord claimed the next three to tie it up once again at 23-23, however, this time the Cavs won the final two points of the set to take it 25-23. UVa-Wise looked dominant in the third and built an eight-point lead at 20-12 before winning the set by a score of 25-21.
Leading two sets to one, the Cavs held a 23-19 advantage in the fourth set before four-straight Mountain Lion points tied up the score at 23 apiece for the third time in the match. UVa-Wise held match points four times at 24-23, 25-24, 26-25 and 27-26 but each one was thwarted by Concord. Winning three consecutive points on the Cavs' last match point of the set, the Mountain Lions claimed the fourth set to force a fifth. Trailing by three in the fifth, UVa-Wise called a timeout and went on to win 10 of the next 14 points in order to clinch the match victory at 15-12.
In the second set, Lee recorded her 1,000th career dig to become just the fifth player in UVa-Wise volleyball history to reach the 1,000 dig mark. To go along with her match and career-high 37 digs, Lee made two service aces.
Anderson's career-high 20 kills were also a match high as she made 19 digs. Senior outside hitter
Karley Allen (Lanexa, Va.) had another outstanding match with a double-double of 19 kills and 21 digs. Senior middle blocker
Santana Bishop (Gate City, Va.) tied her career high in kills with 15, hitting at a mark of .323 for the match and adding three blocks. Senior middle blocker
Lindsey Tucker (Midlothian, Va.) also earned three blocks and made a season-high 14 kills, while sophomore right side hitter
Amanda Auxier (Midlothian, Va.) totaled a season-high six blocks and recorded 13 kills.
Concord got double-digit kills from four different players with Brooke Heck's 15 leading the way. Emily Ellis made 14 kills and hit .385 for the Mountain Lions as Alexi Pranckus and Ellie Lawrence each posted 10. Pranckus earned 11 digs and Lawrence served two aces and reached six blocks, while Erin Shannon made a team-high 32 digs. Casey Mandeville assisted on 28 of Concord's 59 kills and Jenna Mounts aided on 25 others. The Mountain Lions benefited from Ellis' match-high eight blocks as well.
The Cavs continue their five-match homestand to wrap up the regular season this weekend. UVa-Wise hosts the University of Charleston Friday at 7 p.m. before welcoming West Virginia State Saturday at 6 p.m.
