Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – UVa-Wise volleyball was outmatched Friday evening at No. 5 Wheeling Jesuit University, falling in straight sets (25-20, 25-12, 25-17). The Cardinals (26-2, 12-0 MEC) showed why they are ranked fifth nationally, swinging at a mark of .293 for the match and remaining in the lead for the entirety of the second and third sets. The Cavaliers (6-22, 4-7 MEC) made a total of 34 kills but were kept to a .094 hitting percentage.
Wheeling Jesuit recorded 40 total kills to go along with five service aces, nine total team blocks and 43 digs. Meanwhile, UVa-Wise earned three aces, five total team blocks and 42 digs in the three sets. Connecting on 11 or more kills in each set, the Cardinals hit an astounding .433 in the opening set with 17 kills and only four errors. The first set was also the Cavs' best of the match as UVa-Wise swung at a mark of .206 and collected 14 kills.
Both teams went back and forth the majority of the opening set as the Cavs found themselves with a 14-13 lead after claiming four consecutive points. However, Wheeling Jesuit would go on to win 12 of the next 18 points and take the first set 25-20. The Cardinals jumped out to a 12-4 advantage in the second set and never looked back, remaining in command to earn a 25-12 second-set win. UVa-Wise was held to a -.050 attack percentage in the second set and committed 10 attack errors. Wheeling Jesuit showed no mercy in what proved to be the final set, racing out to a 10-4 lead before the Cavs narrowed the deficit to three at 13-10. UVa-Wise continued to fight hard and chiseled down the Cardinals' lead to two twice at 16-14 and 17-15. That would be as close as the Cavs would get before Wheeling Jesuit ended the set on a 5-0 run, clinching the match at 25-17.

Karley Allen (Lanexa, Va.) and
Erin Anderson (Richmond, Va.) led UVa-Wise with near double-doubles, Allen tallying 13 kills and nine digs and Anderson collecting 11 kills and nine digs as well. Senior middle blocker
Lindsey Tucker (Midlothian, Va.) connected on five kills, while senior middle blocker
Simona Zduoba (Boyce, Va.) earned four blocks. Allen and senior right side hitter
Amanda Auxier (Midlothian, Va.) each added two blocks as senior libero
Erin Lee (Fincastle, Va.) made a team-high 14 digs. Freshman setter
Morgan Milligan (Bridgewater, Va.) assisted on 29 of the Cavs' 34 kills.
The Cardinals were led by Sydney Obringer with 13 kills and nine digs, while Haley Kindall totaled seven kills and Emma Schleucher, Breanna Kramer and Lauren Graves each added four. Wheeling Jesuit also got three aces from Kramer and five blocks from Graves. Andrea Thobe and Haley Kindall each posted three blocks for the Cardinals, while Thobe had a match-high 33 assists and Kayce Krucki collected a match-high 16 digs.
The Cavs will now return home and welcome a five-match homestand to wrap up the regular season. UVa-Wise hosts Concord University Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match in the David J. Prior Convocation Center.
