Box Score WISE, Va. – The UVa-Wise volleyball team defeated visiting West Virginia Wesleyan 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-11) in a home Mountain East Conference match Friday evening inside the David J. Prior Convocation Center. The Cavaliers (5-20, 3-6 MEC) showed no mercy against the Lady Bobcats (6-16, 2-7 MEC) and gained momentum and confidence with each set win. UVa-Wise has now won back-to-back matches for the first time this season.
Swinging at .250 for the match, the Cavs registered a total of 45 kills in the three sets and connected on 17 kills in each the first and second sets. In the second set alone, UVa-Wise attacked at a mark of .382 and made only four attack errors. UVa-Wise also made five service aces and got to 46 digs. Holding the Lady Bobcat to hitting .047 for the match, the Cavs allowed only five aces by West Virginia Wesleyan in the third set and forced 11 attack errors. West Virginia Wesleyan finished with a total of only 26 kills in the three sets but made six total team blocks.
The opening set proved to be a thriller as both teams went back and forth and neither could separate themselves from the other. Battling until the end, UVa-Wise was able to edge West Virginia Wesleyan for a 25-23 first-set win. The Cavs grabbed an early lead in the second set but the Lady Bobcats came back to retake it at 12-10 after a string of West Virginia Wesleyan points. UVa-Wise showed its composer and fought its way to a substantial lead late in the set, eventually taking the set at 25-19. Racing out to a 5-0 advantage in the third set, the Cavs raced toward the finish line and quickly built a commanding 18-5 lead. UVa-Wise clinched the match in dominant fashion, winning the final set by a score of 25-11.

Karley Allen (Lanexa, Va.) led the Cavs offensively, making a match-high 16 kills on just 33 total attacks and also adding six digs. Senior middle blocker

Erin Lee (Fincastle, Va.) had a great evening on the back line, registering a match-high 19 digs. Anderson collected four service aces, while Bishop made three blocks and Auxier contributed two more. Freshman setter
Morgan Milligan (Bridgewater, Va.) assisted on 24 of the Cavs' 45 kills and posted eight digs as fellow freshman setter
Caitlynn Doss (Abingdon, Va.) assisted on 18 other kills.
The Lady Bobcats were led by Hannah King with 11 kills and three blocks, while Stacie Baumann hit six kills of her own and Ebonie Hicks finished with four kills and three more blocks. West Virginia Wesleyan received 23 assists and a block from Paulina Nottingham as Hannah Moore and Katlyn Hoge got to nine and eight digs, respectively. Hannah Bradford and Lexi Walsh each contributed seven digs for the Lady Bobcats.
The Cavs remain at home and have a short turnaround before their next match, hosting Glenville State College tomorrow at 10 a.m.
