Box Score RICHMOND, Va. – UVa-Wise volleyball picked up a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-21) non-conference road win Wednesday evening at Virginia Union University in Richmond. The visiting Cavaliers (4-20) overwhelmingly out hit the host Lady Panthers (11-8) and controlled the match from the beginning to earn the match sweep.
 
UVa-Wise registered 39 kills off an attack percentage of .228 and tallied at least 12 kills in each set, swinging at a mark of .310 in the second set. The Cavs held Virginia Union to hitting .024 and 16 total kills for the match, keeping the Lady Panthers to a -.029 attack percentage in the opening set. Serving a total of nine aces, UVa-Wise made 41 digs in the three sets compared to just 28 by Virginia Union.
 
The Cavs jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the first set after a string of five-straight points and continued to steadily increase its lead, eventually claiming seven of the last nine points to win it at 25-15. UVa-Wise was just as dominant in the second set and only made four attack errors in the entire set. Going on a run of eight consecutive points, the Cavs took another early lead at 13-7 and never looked back. This time taking six of the final eight points in the set, UVa-Wise built a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-14 second-set victory.
 
The third set proved to be the closest of the three as the Lady Panthers built an early 10-7 advantage. The Cavs continued to trail in the set before rattling off four-straight points to take back the lead at 15-13. With the score tied at 19 apiece, UVa-Wise once again claimed six of the next eight points to win the set at 25-21 and clinch the match.
 
Senior outside hitter Karley Allen (Lanexa, Va.) led the Cavs with a double-double of a match-high 11 kills and 10 digs. Senior middle blocker Lindsey Tucker (Midlothian, Va.) was equally impressive, collecting nine kills off an attack percentage of .389 and making two blocks. Senior outside hitter Erin Anderson (Richmond, Va.) was just short of a double-double herself, registering nine kills and eight digs. On the back line senior libero Erin Lee (Fincastle, Va.) served four aces and got to six digs, while freshman setters Morgan Milligan (Bridgewater, Va.) and Caitlynn Doss (Abingdon, Va.) assisted on 17 and 14 of the Cavs' 39 kills, respectively. Sophomore right side hitter Amanda Auxier (Midlothian, Va.) also came up with two blocks in the match.
 
The Lady Panthers were led by Jayshil Oatley who tallied seven kills, four digs and an assist. A'Maria Wright made a team-high 10 assists for Virginia Union and also got to a team-high six digs, while Taylor White added four kills and three blocks. Ambryanna Moore contributed three blocks for the Lady Panthers as Kodi Thacker posted two of her own.
 
The Cavs return to the comforts of home and the David J. Prior Convocation Center this weekend for two Mountain East Conference matches. UVa-Wise hosts West Virginia Wesleyan Friday at 5 p.m. before welcoming Glenville State College Saturday for a 10 a.m. first serve.
