Box Score BREVARD, N.C. – Playing in their fifth match away from home in the last five days, the UVa-Wise women's volleyball team seemed to be road weary as the Cavaliers dropped a 3-0 decision to Brevard College Tuesday evening.

Despite failing to win a set in the contest the Cavs played two close sets against the Tornadoes. UVa-Wise came up short in the first set, 25-21, and then fell 25-17 in the second before battling in the third as Brevard got the 25-22 edge.

The Cavs were able to connect for only a total of 26 kills the entire match while Brevard tallied 47 total kills. Recording an attack percentage of .130 for the match, UVa-Wise was outdone as the Tornadoes hit .282.

Keeping it close for much of the first set, the Cavs relied on three kills from freshman outside hitter
Ciara Kain and four digs by junior outside hitter
Karley Allen. However, Brevard closed in on the set late winning the opening set on a
Kelsey Smith service error.

The second set proved to be even more difficult for the Cavs as they hit .111 and committed six errors, while Brevard earned a .379 attack behind seven kills from Fatima Gharachorloo.

After the 10-minute intermission, UVa-Wise came out and fought hard but was unable to string enough points together in what proved to be the final set of the match. The Cavs hit 10 kills in the third set and recorded 22 digs, however, the Tornadoes claimed 20 kills and 24 digs. Allen led in the final set with six kills and seven digs as junior libero

Cashing in on six aces, Brevard earned 45 assists and 49 digs in the match while UVa-Wise made 25 assists and posted 41 total digs.

Allen recorded a team-high 12 kills, got a match-high 12 digs and contributed one ace and two blocks for the Cavs. Freshman setter
Chandler Rouse tallied 23 assists.

Gharachorloo had a match-high 14 kills for the Tornados while also adding eight digs. Brevard's Erin Barr gained 38 assists and made 10 digs.

The Cavs will have a short break before hitting the road again this weekend as they travel to Elkins, West Virginia, for the Davis and Elkins tournament. UVa-Wise faces Slippery Rock for the second weekend in a row Friday at 2:30 p.m. before taking on Shippensburg in the evening at 7:30 p.m.
