Box Score 2 WISE - - UVa-Wise ended its 2015 season with a pair of wins as the Cavaliers lined 19 hits in a 16-7 win in the opener before collecting 10 hits in an 8-2 victory in the season finale. Senior Bill Steven went 5-5 at the plate, scored three runs, and hit a grand slam over the left field wall in the final at bat of his career in aiding his club to the game one victory.
Steven finished the season with a .407 batting average while not committing an error at first base.
UVa-Wise (14-31, 13-23) also received a home run and a five RBI performance from Tye Marshall in the opener while Ty Lighton and Will Cline each tallied three hits.
Game two saw Austin Johnson go 3-4 with three runs scored while Dallas Smithers, Jordan Olinger, and Ryan Dickt collected two hits.
Two freshmen picked up wins on the mound for the Cavs. Garrett Wente struck out eight in earning his first collegiate win in the opener before Wesley Thornton scattered five hits in six innings of work to claim the game two win.
