Box Score 2 BRISTOL, Tenn. - - UVa-Wise and King University played a pair of one-run games Wednesday afternoon at King Baseball Field. The visiting Cavaliers used a seven-run fourth inning in the opener to halt a nine-game losing streak with an 11-8 victory before the Tornado held off a late rally to score an 8-7 triumph in game two.
UVa-Wise (6-21) received four hits from Ty Lighton in the doubleheader as he added two RBIs and a run scored from his leadoff position. Dallas Smithers added three hits and five runs scored for the Cavaliers who also picked up three RBIs each from Tye Marshall and Austin Johnson.
Marshall earned the win in game one for his one inning of work and Cody Jewell notched the save by pitching two innings of scoreless relief out of the bullpen.
UVa-Wise will return to Mountain East Conference play this weekend when West Liberty University visits Stallard Field for a four-game set. The weekend will begin on Saturday when the program will host Meet the Cavaliers inside Greear Gymnasium at 11 a.m. prior to first pitch at 1 p.m.
