Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va. - - Host Wheeling Jesuit University and UVa-Wise wrapped up a four-game series Monday with a doubleheader. The Cardinals scored two runs in each of the first three innings and took advantage of three Cavaliers' errors in claiming an 8-5 victory in the opener. With the win, Wheeling Jesuit clinched the series win after sweeping UVa-Wise in a doubleheader Sunday. The Cavs used a two-run fourth inning in the finale to overcome a 3-2 deficit in salvaging a game with a 4-3 victory.
UVa-Wise (12-29, 11-21) picked up 12 hits in the opener, including three from senior Chaz Tanner. Fellow senior Brandon Fletcher lined two hits and knocked in three.
Wheeling Jesuit (14-23, 13-19) overcame the 12-hit attack by the Cavaliers as the Cardinals scored three unearned runs off a trio of UVa-Wise errors.
Game two saw Cody Jewell throw a complete game without allowing an earned run in picking up the mound win. Jewell scattered six hits and struck out four as he improved his record to 2-2 on the year.
At the plate, Ty Lighton and Bill Steven each went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored for UVa-Wise.
Next up is a trip to Tusculum for the Cavaliers on Wednesday night.
