Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WISE - - Glenville State claimed a four-game weekend series over UVa-Wise with a 12-4 win in the opener before Brett Yates lined a game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth inning, allowing the Cavaliers to salvage a game in the series with a 10-9 victory.  The Pioneers took both games on Friday to gain a 2-0 lead in the series.

Glenville State (15-24, 15-17) scored eight runs over the final two innings to break open a 4-4 game the first contest of the day.  The 4-8 hitters in the Pioneers' lineup went a combined 12-23 with nine RBI and six runs scored in the series clinching win.

Zach Sanford homered and knocked in four for Glenville State while Lance Gilbert and Khalfani Mar'na each had three hits.

UVa-Wise (11-26, 10-17) received a 3-3 performance from Austin Johnson and Ty Lighton, Yates, Bill Steven, and Tye Marshall added two hits in defeat.

Game two became a battle of attrition.  Playing its sixth game in three days, the Cavaliers were forced to pitch two positions, including catcher Ryan Dickt who pitched two plus innings of relief on Friday.  By the time the day concluded, coach Hank Banner had lost his designated hitter and pitched three players who have primarily served as position players over the course of the season.

Yates game-winning base hit eventually won it for UVa-Wise, but the work Lighton did after moving from the outfield to the mound was as important in the victory.

Pitching in only his second game of his collegiate career, the junior tossed two scoreless innings in picking up his first mound victory.  Lighton added a pair of strikeouts while giving up two hits.

Lighton was also solid at the plate by lining four hits in six trips, he added two RBI and two runs scored.  The two RBI came on a base hit to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning that tied the contest at 9-9.

Yates, Steven, Marshall, and Matthew Wright all had two hits as part of a 14-hit attack for UVa-Wise.
