Bobcats Rally Past Cavaliers For Two Victories

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - - Host West Virginia Wesleyan used a pair of late inning rallies in a doubleheader Mountain East Conference sweep of UVa-Wise Sunday.

Michael Logsdon lined a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete a two-run inning a 3-2 Bobcats' (6-8, 5-8) win in the opener.  The hit capped an inning that began with an error and a run-tying sacrifice fly by Corey Lynn.

West Virginia Wesleyan would use a four-run fifth inning to overcome a three-run deficit in a 10-6 win in the night cap.

The late game heroics spoiled a second consecutive quality start by UVa-Wise (5-13, 5-7) hurler Alex Javins.  The right-hander allowed an unearned run while striking out seven, walking three, and surrendering four hits in six innings of work.

UVa-Wise received an RBI hit from Matthew Wright after a Ryan Dickt double in the third inning and a bases loaded walk from Brett Yates in the fifth inning for their two runs.

Game two saw the Cavaliers score six runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead.  All six runs came with two outs in the inning and included a two-RBI hit by Chaz Tanner, an RBI single by Yates and Bill Steven, and a two-RBI double from Jordan Olinger.

The Bobcats responded with four runs in the fifth inning after pushing across a single run in the fourth to take a lead they would not relinquish. James Fraser had a two-RBI hit while Riley Metz had an RBI groundout and Wyatt Adkins lined a run-scoring double in the big frame.

Leading 8-6, Wesleyan laced back-to-back doubles off the bat of Logsdon and Lynn for a ninth run before a second RBI groundout by Metz accounted for the 10 run.

UVa-Wise would be unable to mount a rally in the latter innings as James Gainer would pitch a complete game for the Bobcats.  Gainer scattered 12 hits while striking out five in the effort.

Austin Johnson lined three hits in the loss for the Cavs.

The same two teams will be back at it tomorrow when the series concludes with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
