Box Score 2 URBANA, Ohio - - Steven Klaiber pitched a complete game in a 5-4 UVa-Wise victory in game one before the Cavaliers scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to claim a 9-6 win as coach Hank Banner's club posted a four-game Mountain East Conference sweep of host Urbana University.
The four-game sweep is the first for UVa-Wise (4-10, 4-4) since joining the Mountain East Conference.
Klaiber and Urbana (5-7, 4-5) starter Jackson Everman locked up in a pitcher's duel in the early innings of the opener.

Tanner laid down the bunt and Lighton never broke stride as he headed toward third base. Everman picked up the ball and fired toward third but the ball wound up down the left field line allowing Lighton to scamper home with the first run of the contest.
Brett Yates followed with a ground out to first to move Tanner from second to third. With one down, Bill Steven delivered an RBI groundout to put UVa-Wise in front 2-0 without hitting a ball out of the infield.
Lighton tacked on a third run for the Cavs in the fourth inning when his RBI groundout scored Dallas Smithers.
Trailing by three, Urbana plated a pair of runs in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to one. Matt Paculan and Austin Mace each had an RBI in the inning
A half inning later, UVa-Wise got the two runs back as Lighton singled with Jordan Olinger on base. Urbana would commit an error to allow Olinger to race home. Later in the inning, Tanner would single and Lighton would score on a second misplay by the Blue Knights to make the score 5-2 going to the bottom of the sixth inning.
Following a scoreless home sixth and a scoreless visitor seventh, Urbana mounted a rally in its last trip to the plate.
With two outs, D.J. Collins reached on an error to move Steven Brown to third. Mace and Roman Gammell would each line consecutive run-scoring hits to cut the lead to 5-4.
With the tying and winning runs aboard, Klaiber would get A.J. Finlay out on a grounder to third to secure the 5-4 win and the series victory.
Tanner, Olinger, and Lighton each registered two hits in the victory. Klaiber allowed just one earned run in the complete game effort. He scattered nine hits, struck out four, and did not allow a walk in evening his record to 1-1 on the season.
Game two saw the Cavs race out to a 6-0 lead through 3.5 innings. Steven, Lighton, and Nick Sturgill all had an RBI over the course of the first two innings before UVa-Wise pushed three runs across in the fourth frame.
A base hit by Lighton plated the first run in the inning while Tanner had a sacrifice fly and Yates lined a RBI hit in the big inning.
As was the case in game one, the Blue Knights battled back.
A two-RBI hit by Paculan and a sacrifice fly by Mace scored three runs in the home fourth. Urbana added a fourth run when Finlay knocked in Paculan with a two-out hit.
While the Blue Knights posted four runs in the frame, it would prove to be a costly inning. Jared Finch would come out of the UVa-Wise bullpen to retire the side while leaving the bases loaded and keeping his team in front 6-4.
Urbana would score single runs in the fifth and sixth inning to tie the game. Mace had an RBI groundout in the fifth before an unearned run tied the game in the sixth frame.
Both teams would get at least a runner on in the seventh but neither team could capitalize on its opportunity which forced extra innings.
Olinger led off the eighth inning with a sinking line drive that Paculan tried to snag in centerfield. Paculan dove for the ball but came up short and it rolled to the wall allowing Olinger to reach third with a triple.
Two hitters later, Lighton gave the Cavs the lead with a base hit up the middle against a drawn in infield. Lighton would eventually score on an error before Steven gave the team a three-run margin with a RBI hit.
Urbana would get a runner on in the home eighth but Cody Jewell would end the threat with a game-ending grounder to third to complete the win and the four-game sweep.
Talon Young earned the victory on the mound as he did not allow an earned run in two innings of relief, the save was the first of the year for Jewell.
Yates, Steven, Olinger, Lighton, and Ryan Dickt all had two hits in the win. Lighton knocked in three, Olinger scored three, Steven had two RBI, and Yates scored twice.
