Volleyball to Host Glenville State and West Virginia Wesleyan over Weekend

WISE, Va. – The UVa-Wise women's volleyball team takes on a pair of Mountain East Conference opponents this weekend as the Cavaliers (8-7, 4-0 MEC) finish up their three-match homestand and look to stay undefeated in league play.
 
The Cavs will face Glenville State (1-15, 0-4 MEC) Friday night at 7 p.m. inside the David J. Prior Center before taking on West Virginia Wesleyan (7-10, 1-3 MEC) Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
UVa-Wise has not lost a match at home this season and has won six consecutive games in Wise spanning back to last year. The Cavs are off to their best start in conference play since joining the MEC in 2013.
 
The Cavs are coming off of a 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-13, 25-23) home win over MEC foe Concord University Tuesday night. UVa-Wise has made 699 kills this season and enters the match with a team attack percentage of .204, averaging 12.5 kills per set.
 
With 664 assists (11.9 per set) recorded in 15 matches, the Cavs have made 886 digs (15.8 per set) and 70 total blocks. UVa-Wise is giving up 11.9 kills per set as teams have registered 664 kills on the Cavs this season with an attack percentage of .172. Opponents have made 632 assists (11.3 assists per set) and collected 856 digs (15.3 per set) against the Cavs this year.
 
Glenville State ranks last in the MEC in hitting percentage (.057), kills (383 total at 7.51 per set), opponent hitting percentage (.291), assists (333 at 6.53 per set), digs (576 at 11.29 per set) and blocks (61 total at 1.20 per set).
 
Junior outside hitter Karley Allen continues to lead the Cavs and the MEC with 249 kills in 15 matches this season, hitting .236 and making a league-leading 4.45 kills per set. In conference play Allen is averaging a whopping 5.06 kills per set. Allen also leads the team in digs with 222 at 3.96 per set.
 
Junior middle blocker Lindsey Tucker is also having a strong year with 126 kills on the season with an attack percentage of .303, along with freshman outside hitter Ciara Kain who has made 115 kills at 2.40 per set.
 
Freshman setter Chandler Rouse will look to continue her excellent play this weekend having tallied 486 assists (10.34 per set) in 11 match starts this season. With 176 digs on the year (3.14 per set), junior libero Erin Lee is having a strong year as well.
 
Kaitlyn Larner leads Glenville State offensively with 93 kills recorded this season and an attack percentage of .146, while the Lady Bobcats are led defensively by Rachel Morris and Cassidy Clark who have made 125 and 102 digs this year respectively.
 
The last time the Cavs lost inside the Prior Center was on Oct. 24 of 2014 against nationally ranked Wheeling Jesuit University.
 
Admission to all home volleyball matches this season is free for everybody.

Following this weekend's matches UVa-Wise will travel to Banner Elk, North Carolina, for two non-conference matches Tuesday, Oct. 13, against Lees McRae College and Brevard College.
