Volleyball on the Road at Bluefield State Wednesday

WISE, Va. – The UVa-Wise women's volleyball team travels to Bluefield, West Virginia, Wednesday, stepping out of conference play to face Bluefield State of the Eastern College Athletic Conference at 6:30 p.m.

The Cavaliers (12-9, 7-1 MEC) are coming off of two consecutive Mountain East Conference wins this past weekend at the David J. Prior Convocation Center. UVa-Wise defeated Urbana University in a close five-set match Friday night before downing Notre Dame College 3-0 Saturday morning.

Winning three of their past four matches, the Cavs will take on a Bluefield State team that is on an 11-match win streak and hasn't lost since Sept. 19. Bluefield State hosts the UVa-Wise for tomorrow's matchup owning a 15-4 overall record and an 8-2 mark against NCAA Division II teams.

Wednesday's contest will be the second time this season the Cavs and Lady Blues have played this season. Bluefield State got the better part of UVa-Wise back on Sept. 12 in a neutral site match as part of the Davis & Elkins tournament. The Cavs were ousted in five sets despite being up two sets to none on the Lady Blues. Since that match UVa-Wise has won nine out of their last 12 contests and Bluefield State has claimed 11 out of their last 12 matches.

Bluefield State has also faced West Virginia Wesleyan of the MEC, earning a 3-1 win over the Lady Bobcats. UVa-Wise was defeated 3-0 by West Virginia Wesleyan at home which was the Cavs' lone loss in conference play.

UVa-Wise has recorded 1,274 digs this year (16.1 per set) compared to 1,234 digs by opponents (15.6 per set).

Junior outside hitter Karley Allen leads the Cavs this season with 349 total kills at 4.42 kills per set and 310 digs at 3.92 digs per set. Allen was named MEC player of the week Monday for her outstanding play last week and is only 32 digs away from reaching 1,000 digs for her career. The Lanexa, Virginia (New Kent H.S.), native is trying to become the first Cav to ever reach the 1,000 career mark in both kills and digs. She is currently only 14 digs away from moving into third place on UVa-Wise's all-time career digs list.
