Box Score 2 BANNER ELK, N.C. – The UVa-Wise women's volleyball team split a pair of match Tuesday in Banner Elk, North Carolina, as part of a tri-match hosted by Lees-McRae College. The Cavaliers (10-9, 5-1 MEC) rallied to defeat host Lees-McRae 3-1 (19-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-15) in the first match of the day before dropping a five-set decision to Brevard College, 3-2 (25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 21-25, 15-10).
After falling 25-19 in the first set to Lees-McRae (4-14, 3-5 Conference Carolinas), UVa-Wise fought back to claim a tightly contested second set 26-24 and even the match at a set a piece. In the third it was the Cavs who dialed up a 25-19 set win before dominating the fourth set 25-15 to clinch the match.
The Cavs recorded an attack percentage of .292 in the first match of the day, hitting .481 in the second fourth set alone. UVa-Wise made a total of 56 kills, eight service aces and 50 digs while Lees-McRae registered 54 total kills off of an attack percentage of .279 and gained 45 digs. Each team tallied 53 assists.

Karley Allen led the Cavs with 21 kills and 12 digs, while freshman outside hitter
Ciara Kain made 13 kills. Junior middle blocker
Lindsey Tucker swung .556 for the match and registered 11 kills. Junior defensive specialist
Erin Anderson earned 11 digs as freshman setter
Chandler Rouse continued her fine play with 51 assists in the four sets.
Avalon Liscio led the Bobcats with 17 kills and Jariliz Cotte dished in 14 more. Madison Martin tallied 12 digs for Lees-McRae while Laneica Williams got 11 of her own.
The Cavs were not able to pull off the comeback in the second match of the day after battling back from two sets down. Brevard (7-9, 5-6 South Atlantic Conference) held the Cavs to hitting less than .200 in all but one set and jumped out to a 2-0 lead after claiming the first set 25-19 and the second 25-21.
However, UVa-Wise did not give up and continued to fight, taking the third set 25-20 behind a set-high seven kills from Tucker. Allen made a set-high six kills in the fourth set as the Cavs hit .270 and forced a fifth set with a 25-21 set win. The deciding set proved to be tough for the Cavs who were kept to an attack percentage of .000 in the final set. Brevard clinched the match with a 15-10 fifth-set win.
The Cavs hit only .128 for the match, making 57 kills off of 53 assists, while the Tornados registered an attack percentage of .184 behind 59 kills and 56 assists. UVa-Wise had 94 digs in the five sets compared to 85 by Brevard.
The Cavs got 17 kills and 16 digs from Allen in the match and 13 kills more kills from Tucker. Freshman outside hitter tallied a career-high eight kills, while junior libero
Erin Lee was just two shy of her career-high in digs with 27. Anderson added 17 more digs as senior outside hitter
Kelsey Smith reached a new career-high at 16 digs.
Brevard was led by Fatima Gharachorloo who dished out 18 kills and made 23 digs. Erin Barr gained 20 digs for the Tornados while Rachel Ruble contributed 12 kills.
The Cavs will now return to Wise and prepare for a pair of Mountain East Conference matches this weekend at the David J. Prior Convocation Center. UVa-Wise will host Urbana University Friday at 7 p.m. before welcoming Notre Dame College Saturday at 10 a.m.
