Box Score WISE - - UVa-Wise ran its home winning streak to four with a 3-2 (26-24, 18-25, 25-16, 17-25, 15-11) Mountain East Conference win over Concord University on Tuesday. Erin Anderson delivered a season-high 15 kills in the victory for UVa-Wise while Karley turned in a double-double with 24 kills and 17 digs.
UVa-Wise (5-7, 1-3 MEC) used a service ace from Santana Bishop and an attack error from Alexis Elliott to break a 24-24 tie en route to the set one victory. Allen posted five of her kills in the set and Ashley Hooven handed out six assists in the set one win.
Concord (5-7, 1-3 MEC) bounced back in the second set behind Brytni Willis' five kills and four digs in the set. The Mountain Lions took a lead at 8-7 in the set and never relinquished the lead in posting the set win. The visitors also took advantage of nine errors by UVa-Wise the second set.
The trend of alternating set victories continued in the third set as Allen hammered home 10 kills against one error in the 25-16 set win. Veronica Sanchez and Hooven also had nine assists to give the Cavaliers a 2-1 lead in the match.
Set four saw the Mountain Lions tie the match as Willis tallied five kills and Sarah Jones added four in the win. Casey Mandeville handed out six assists in the set.
Coach Kristen Salyer's club jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never trailed in the decisive set as Allen, Anderson, and Sanchez all had multiple kills in the set. Hooven, four, and Sanchez, three, combined for seven assists in set five.
The Cavaliers will be back on the road on Friday when the team travels to Glenville State for another MEC match.
