STORYLINES – THE CONCORD GAME
UVa-Wise enters the game coming off its first win of 2014, a 16-13 win at West Virginia State. The Highland Cavaliers had their strongest rushing performance of the season with 279 rushing yards. Freshman Carlton Griffith, 111 yards, and sophomore Ty Ryans, 92 yards, led the rushing attack. On defense, seniors Nehemiah Jones and Jeremiah Cooke each had an interception in the victory. Jones returned his interception for a touchdown. Concord enters as the top scoring offense in the Mountain East Conference. The Mountain Lions are the lone undefeated team in the MEC and are averaging 48.4 points per game. Tailback Calvinaugh Jones has already surpassed 1,000 yards on the season and ranks second in the MEC in rushing. Through the air, quarterback Brian Novak averages 269.5 yards passing per game and leads the MEC in pass efficency.
ABOUT UVA-WISE
Sophomore linebacker Zack Blair continues to rank among the MEC leaders in tackles and tackles for loss. The former Skyline High School product is fourth in the league with 70 tackles and leads the conference in stops behind the line of scrimmage with 20.5. The game will be one of two final home games in 2014 for the Cavaliers and the 2014 UVa-Wise Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place prior to the game. Two former football players, Ra'Shad Morgan and Randy Hippeard will join former
volleyball and softball player Kendall Rainey as the three newest members of the UVa-Wise Athletic Hall of Fame. The trio will be honored at halftime of the football game.
