Box Score 2 BRISTOL, Tenn. - - UVa-Wise split a pair of matches Saturday the King University Volleyball Invitational. The Cavaliers won its first match of the season with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-7) victory over North Greenville University in the finale. In the day's first match, the Cavs dropped a 24-26, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22, 15-11 decision to Lees-McRae.
UVa-Wise (1-3) used 24 kills and 16 digs from
Karley Allen in the opener and 45 assists from
Veronica Sanchez to secure its first win of the season against North Greenville (1-5). The Crusaders picked up 10 kills from Yomi Adeye and 13 digs from Taylor Yupes in the four set match.
In the opening match, UVa-Wise scored a 26-24 victory in the first set before losing two of the next three sets to force a fifth and decisive set. In the fifth set, Lees-McRae (1-4) jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back en route to a 15-11 win to secure the match.
In the match, UVa-Wise's Sanchez finished with a match-high 43 assists and teammate
Brittni Altmann posted a match-high 20 digs. Allen added 15 kills and 16 digs for the Cavaliers. Lees-McRae's Avalon Liscio led all players with 20 kills on 50 attempts. The Bobcats also received a total of 49 digs from the quartet of Candace Niemiec (15), Liscio (15), Beatty (10), and Haylee Leonard (9).
The Cavs will return to play tomorrow in the finale of the invitational when they take on King University and Southern Wesleyan.
