Archer Shines as Cavalier Women Improve to 3-0

Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. - - UVa-Wise placed five players in double figure scoring and shot 51 percent from the field en route to a 79-71 victory over the University of Pikeville at the Eastern Kentucky Expo Center on Monday.  The win was the third consecutive victory for the Cavaliers to start the season who are 3-0 for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

Freshman Taylor Sandidge speared the UVa-Wise (3-0) attack with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals while Kenize Poindexter posted a team-high 17 points.  Makenzie Cluesman and Katie Jo Lester each added 15 points while Reynesha Archer scored 11 points.  Cluesman and Lester each hit three, 3-pointers while Archer finished the game 4-6 from the field.

UPike (0-3) was led by Callisha Johnson who scored a game-high 23 points while also connecting on a game-high four, 3-pointers.  The Bears turned the ball over 22 times in the loss which led to 30 points by the Cavaliers. 

The 79 points by UVa-Wise are the most this season by the team while the team went to the line 31 times, connecting on 21 of the attempts.

The Cavs return to play on Saturday when the school plays its first ever Mountain East Conference game when Urbana University visits the Prior Center for a 2 pm tip.  You can watch the game live at www.uvawisecavs.com/showcase.
