Saturday will mark the regular season finale for two schools that are finishing their seasons on different paths.  UVa-Wise enters the contest winners of two if its last three games.  Meanwhile, Fairmont State University has dropped five straight games, including a 45-0 loss against the University of Charleston last Saturday.

The storyline of the game will be UVa-Wise senior James Long who has already established two new single-season records at UVa-Wise.  The senior wide receiver already holds the single-season yardage and reception record and stands just 15 yards shy of tying the single-season all-purpose yards record.  Long leads the MEC in receiving yards, yards per game, and all-purpose yards.  Long can also set a new single-season receptions per game record at UVa-Wise this Saturday.  In addition to Long, 10 other seniors will play their final collegiate game.  Joing Long are safety Thomas Wright, punter Tyler Graham, place kicker Paul Melshen, fullback Sean Atkins, linebacker Christian DeJarnette, cornerback Vernon Payne, cornerback Shaheim Harris, offensive lineman Michael Barbour, defensive lineman Cloyd Gafney, and wide receiver Harrison Loy.

A week ago, the Cavalier defense had one of its strongest games of the season.  UVa-Wise limited West Liberty to 312 offensive yards while limiting the Hilltoppers to 13 points.  The defense sealed the game late in the fourth quarter on a pick six by Vernon Payne.  Several Cavs had strong games including DeJarnette who had a season-high eight tackles.  T'ontray Billups had a game-high 12 tackles and Timmy Meador made nine stops from his defensive end position.

Fairmont State University ranks seventh in scoring defense and eighth in scoring offense among the 11 MEC teams.  The Fighting Falcons are led by Dawrence Roberts, the senior running back ranks ninth in the MEC with 555 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.  Through the air, Cooper Hibbs has thrown for 1,295 yards and 10 touchdowns.  His favorite target has been Nick Alvaro who has hauled in 35 receptions for 334 yards.  On defense, Garrett Davis ranks fourth in the league with 91 tackles.  Davis has tallied 56 solo stops and three sacks.
